For Dorian: Big basketball weekend coming to Saginaw

Posted: February 2, 2010 by Jared Field in High School

This weekend will be one to remember for basketball fans in Mid-Michigan. The Dorian Dawkins “Show Your Heart” Memorial Classic is coming to the campus of Delta College in Saginaw.

The tournament, a fundraiser for the Dorian Styles Dawkins Foundation and the American Heart Association, will feature some of the top teams and players in the midwest including a surefire “one and done” NBA prospect Jared Sullinger of Columbus (Ohio) Northland. Dorian Dawkins, the son of Saginaw High head coach Lou Dawkins, died on the court last summer at the Izzo Shootout due to an undiagnosed heart condition. Dorian was among the top incoming freshmen in the country.

The game will feature, among others: Jared Sullinger, Ray McCallum Jr., Demarco Sanders, Steve Haney, Patrick Lucas-Perry, Amir Williams, Patrick O’Brien and Tommy McCune.

Here’s the schedule:

 February 6th
6PM East Lansing vs. Detroit Consortium
8PM Detroit Country Day vx. Columbus Northland

February 7th
12PM Clarkston vs. Academy of Oak Park
3PM Saginaw High vs. Flint Powers

Any information on ticket pricing for the games?

  2. Dantana says:

I believe it is $10, but I’m not sure if that is for all games or per game.

  3. Jared Field says:

I also failed to mention that Mott plays at Delta at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

  4. Thx Jared for posting this material. Tickets are $10 per game. To be safe, for the Columbus Northland/Country Day & Saginaw/Powers game, I’d buy my tickets beforehand.

How big is Delta college’s gym? And is it named Pioneer gym? I was only wanting to come for the DCD vs. Northland game, are they going to clear the gym after the first? I’m assuming it should be a sell-out depending on the size of gym.

    Thanks for the information everyone.
