Does this look like a dirty play to you? Probably not, unless you're looking at it through rose-colored glasses.
After Swartz Creek’s 63-59 win over Holly Friday night, many Bronchos fans expressed anger over what I deemed to be the “play of the game” in the second half.
I wrote this: “Aaron Wascha gets the play of the game for running down (Thomas) Lovachis (who everyone in the gym knew was going to slam the ball with two hands) and putting a hard-foul stamp on his forehead. It was not intentional or flagrant, only decisive. That’s what players with pride do.”
I took seven different kinds of smoke from Holly fans (go read the comments attached to the story) for supposedly praising an attempt to hurt another player. They said the foul was flagrant, intentional and downright dirty.
The difficult thing for homer fans in 2010 is that there’s always someone watching. Take a look at the photos of the play in question, and tell me if it looks like Wascha is trying to make a play on the ball. Oh, and take note of the unbiased observer watching the play. Hint: It’s the guy in the striped shirt.

exactly why the Metro is the way it is. Bunch of suburbanites whining about everything so the refs call everything. Player going for the ball, left hand low , definately not a flagrant. And the photo is not that blurry….only to someone that has never played a lick in their life, has no clue and doesn’t care to learn how sports in general is played. Just like in football, someone takes a hard hit from someone who works hard, lift weights and improve themselves because they want to be successful, hits someone who just shows up to play football and because that kid is not prepared lays there and it becomes a flag. Refs make ridiculous calls because everbody cries and they don’t want to hear it.
i don’t care if it was a dirty foul or not… it’s about PRIDE. Why let somebody get a dunk off when you can go hammer em? Good foul
Pics look like….good defense!!!! Finally!

Looks like he made a play on the ball AND THEN FOULED HIM. You’re acting like a foul wasn’t called. It was. Here’s the thing: Good referees aren’t going to call a flagrant foul when a player makes a play on the ball. If you follow through with the body a foul will almost always be called.
You’re really fitting neatly into the Metro League stereotype my friend. No one ever claimed that it was not a hard foul. I heard him hit the floor.
It’s a hard foul. It would only be considered flagrant if it were on Dwayne Wade.
Lovachis is the Dwayne Wade of that league, though. So yeah, it was flagrant.
Jared, please do elaborate on what you mean by this comment. Thanks
Athletically, he may as well be Dwayne Wade in that league. No one is close, in my opinion.
Good save.
This is the natural motion of the defender coming through with the arm motion after the attempted block. So what…..they called the foul, play on. The BroncHos lost, play hard, win some games and get ready for the districts. And quit crying over spilt milk!
i’m glad i’m not the only one who thinks that it’s funny how Holly spells Bron-chos…lol
Someone from Creek will hit the deck in the next game, guaranteed. That was a cheap shot. He missed the ball and pulled him down by the shoulder.
Make sure you call it a hard foul when Creek players go down in the next one.
If Holly fans are any indication, I’m not sure they’d have the fortitude to hard foul anyone.
