Hope for the future: Swartz Creek’s Cody Campbell commits to Hope College

SWARTZ CREEK, Michigan — Cody Campbell, the top player in Flint’s Metro League this past season, will be playing college basketball in Holland at Hope College next season.

The 5-10 senior point guard led Swartz Creek to its first league championship in 20 years. Campbell averaged 17.4 points per game.

Hope College is NCAA Division III and competes in the MIAA. It is one of the most well-respected programs at the D-III level and its rivalry with crosstown foe Calvin College has been ranked as one of the best nationally, in any sport.

Campbell is also prepared to compete at one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the state. At Swartz Creek he carried a 3.9 grade point average and scored a 27 on the ACT.

Campbell is not the kind of player who goes to Hope expecting to start on day one. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Campbell compete for minutes right away and eventually be the starter as an upperclassman. He’s an elite ballhandler and shooter. More importantly, however, is this: He’ll work for it.
