BAY CITY, Michigan — Mott freshman Malik Albert was named the MCCAA District 10 Most Valuable Player on Saturday. Albert, who prepped at Detroit King, was among the top players in Detroit last year and has become one of Mott’s most clutch performers.
Albert scored 49 combined points against rivals Henry Ford CC and Oakland CC including 29 points and an incredible 18-for-18 from the foul line in the clincher on Saturday against Oakland. Ironically, it was little more than one year ago that Albert also scored 29 points in a Detroit PSL title-clinching win against then no. 1 Detroit Pershing.
Mott’s 6-7 sophomore forward Fred Mattison was also named to the all-tournament team. He had 39 points and 18 rebounds in two games.
Steve Schmidt received the Coach of the Year award, one that he has won on numerous occasions.
