Anthony Crater, a former standout at Flint Southwestern, made his debut at the University of South Florida in a loss against Syracuse on Sunday. He missed all six of his shot attempts.
As you may remember, Crater transferred from Ohio State because he wasn’t getting enough playing time. In 10 games there, he averaged 13 minutes per game and 1.2 points. (He attempted one shot from inside the 3-point line in 10 games.) His AAU coach said he was on a “one or two” year plan for the NBA at Ohio State, and that Thad Matta’s decision not to start him was certainly having an effect on that timeline. Oh, and that Matta made a promise about starting the freshman.
Here’s the only promise you can count on in the world of big-time college coaching: Coaches will play the best players.
From GoUSFBulls.com:
Sophomore guard Anthony Crater made his USF debut after sitting out due to NCAA transfer rules. Crater, who adds tremendous speed at the point guard position, had two assists but was held scoreless in 25 minutes of action. He attempted six shots.
The moral of the story: You’re never as good as you think you are. If you’re not getting the minutes you think you deserve, you probably don’t deserve them. Stay. Get better.
