In case you missed it, Fenton pulled out an amazing come-from-behind win last night over rival Swartz Creek.

The Tigers, down 24-4 in the second quarter thanks to some of the tightest team defense I’ve seen all season, still trailed by 15 at the half. Swartz Creek began to surrender their lead in the third quarter, but still had a cushion of seven points entering the fourth quarter.

After their primary ballhandler, sophomore Max Cummings, fouled out early in the fourth, I think it was clear to anyone who has seen Swartz Creek play this season that the game was probably over.

Holly downs Swartz Creek in three-overtime thriller

HOLLY, Michigan — This is becoming one of the better rivalries in the area. Holly welcomed Swartz Creek into their gym last night and two and a half hours later we had a winner.

Austin Hopkin, brother of former Holly standout Lance Hopkin, found himself all alone in the corner with three seconds left in the third overtime. He swished the 3-pointer to give the Bronchos a one-point victory, 64-63.

Pierre Brackett leads Flint Powers to win over Swartz Creek

SWARTZ CREEK, Michigan — Jeremy Trent had a choice to make Tuesday night. Coming off a big win over previously unbeaten Fenton on Friday night, Swartz Creek’s head coach could have played Metro League ball with Flint Powers, one of the top teams in the state. He could have slowed the game down, sat back in a lazy man’s zone, lost by 15 called it a night.

Clearly Trent scheduled Powers to prepare his team for the rest of the season, and he didn’t change a thing about the way his team plays. The Dragons fell to Powers 92-69, but don’t be fooled by the score — this was a competitive game. Powers led by four at the half and actually trailed by six with four minutes left in the third quarter before the floodgates opened.

Aggressive defense helps Swartz Creek hand state-ranked Fenton its first loss

The Tigers are who we thought they were, and Swartz Creek didn’t let them off the hook.

Swartz Creek played aggressive in Friday’s showdown with state-ranked Fenton, and it caused the Tigers to fold. The physical play started by covering veteran point guard Eric Mowery the length of the court with a rotation of athletic guards. It didn’t take long for Mowery to show the typical signs of fatigue with hands on the hips and shortly thereafter hands on the knees. But the physical play didn’t stop there. (more…)
