That’s why they’re Heritage: Hawks fall to Flushing

It would just be unthinkable for Saginaw High or Saginaw Arthur Hill to lose to Flushing, a team coming off an embarrassing near 40-point loss to Flint Carman-Ainsworth.

But, this is Saginaw Heritage. The Hawks can run with Saginaw’s talent, evidenced by an early-season loss to The High by only five points, but Flushing? The Hawks have better players at every position and still managed to lose to the Raiders on Tuesday night.

After watching the Hawks over the weekend, I can put forth an educated guess as to why they lost. Quite simply, the Hawks are soft in the post. Their best post player floats around the perimeter like he’s Deshawn Sims to the detriment of the team.

Flushing’s big man, Zach Treib, had the game of his life against Heritage — 27 points.

I think the more troubling story coming out of this game is that the third-best team in a conference of four just beat the third-best team in the mighty Saginaw Valley.

Props to Heritage’s A.J. Thomas, though. He’s one of the best guards in the state and you may have never heard of him. He had 26 points in the game.
