Talk-on: Jordan Dumars says he’s a 3-point shooter

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Jordan Dumars, the son of former Pistons’ star Joe Dumars, will be a walk-on at Michigan. Oh, and he’s a 3-point shooter, apparently:

From FREEP.com:

Dumars said he is a three-point shooter and that’s why U-M coach John Beilein’s offense fits him well.

Truthfully, I can say that I’m a Pulitzer Prize winning writer, though just saying it doesn’t make it so. (Neither does saying Belein’s offense is for shooters — he’s not in West Virginia anymore.)

And have you ever seen a walk-on get in the paper and talk about going to a system that fits his game? What about talking about his short list of schools — the schools he’s leaning toward.

It’s laughable.

I say shame on all the media lapdogs who have hyped Dumars for three years because he’s his father’s son. It’s a complete joke.

Keep in mind that there’s another walk-on named Eso Akunne at Michigan, who was a four-year starter on varsity at Gabriel Richard and averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds and nearly six assists per game as a senior. All that while Dumars was standing around on the perimeter hoisting up 3-pointers on a team of disinterested underachievers at Detroit Country Day.

Let’s just say his name was Eso Dumars instead. Where would he be playing right now?

  1. Gavin Raath says:

Eso Dumars would be at Duke.

  2. PJR says:

Kudos to you GLHs fellas for telling it like it is. Beilein should be ashamed! There’s a hundred guys far more deserving who could really help Michigan! Plus, the timing smells fishy as it comes, and gotta say Bell should HONESTLY investigate this timing with walkon Puls suddenly leaving midseason after 2 1/2 years while Dumars apparently is already teed up enough to give press releases he’s about to come to Michigan as walkon and future scholarship player. If there’s not connectivity there, well …… And if a rich Dumars takes someone else in need’s scholarship that will be most disgusting!

  3. Marcellus Miller says:

Sounds like the same scenario that has the elder Dumars escaping scrutiny for running the Pistons into the ground…I guess it is all about who you know.

  4. Being nice to the media also made Joe Dumars a first ballot Hall of Famer.

  5. Unfortunately, the aforementioned Akunne is academically ineligible for the winter…maybe the young “Jo-D” won’t have that issue
