Hotbed Hoops: Can Shaq Smith lock up on Maurice Jones?

Here’s a nice interview with Flint Northern’s Shaquille Smith, one of the top junior guards in the state.

From Hotbed Hoops:

Saginaw Arthur Hill’s Maurice Jones, a senior point guard who’s committed to USC, is averaging nearly 30 points and 10 assists per game for the Lumberjacks.

While Northern junior point guard Shaquille Smith doesn’t have the same pedigree or attention of Jones, he does have one thing many opposing players lack: comparable quickness. Those two guards going at each other should make Friday’s Northern-Arthur Hill matchup an exciting one.

“Maurice is an outstanding player and I know Shaquille looks up to him and respects his game,” said Northern coach Thomas Tucker. “I don’t want it to be a matchup between two point guards, I want it to be a matchup between two teams. I know there’s going to be a little rivalry there though, people comparing.”

I don’t think people are comparing Pookie and Shaq Smith. Shaq is know where near the level that Jones is at right now.
