Round two: Flint Carman-Ainsworth at Flint Powers tonight

Posted: January 15, 2010 by Jared Field in High School

What at least one local sportswriter is calling the best rivalry in the Flint-area will be renewed tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Flint Powers.

Both Powers and Flint Carman-Ainsworth are ranked in the state in their respective classes, but that typically doesn’t matter in rivalry games.

Back in December, the Cavaliers upset Powers 78-72 with their superior size and strength in the post. This time around, Powers has what looks like a brand new weapon — senior shooting guard Demarco Sanders. The 6-2 Sanders has emerged this season as the Chargers’ most consistent scorer. He’s leading the team in scoring at 19 points per game and is starting to come into his own as one of the top guards in the Flint-area.

Flint C-A will once again count on senior forward Dee Chapman and Jaylen Larry to convert easy baskets on put-backs in the post.  In their first meeting, senior guard Glenn Cosey poured in 27 points for the Cavaliers. I think he’ll have to put forth a similar effort for C-A to win.

Prediction: Even though they burned me last time, I’ll take Powers by three. I can’t see the Chargers losing two games in a row (they lost to Bridgeport Tuesday night). Further, I think the shots that Pat O’Brien missed in the first game will fall tonight. Look for a big game from him.

  2. Y jones says:

for the life of me, I just don’t understand how Power’s is allowed to get away with what they do regarding their Athletic program. I know for a fact that they are paying off referees. Also, how is it that they never loose at their gym, Why! because of the refs in the back pocket and people talk about sportsmanship.
