Kalamazoo Central shuts down no. 1-ranked Detroit Country Day

Posted: January 23, 2010 by Jared Field in High School

This is not an “I told you so” moment. Anyone who has watched Kalamazoo Central play this year knows, deep down, that the Maroon Giants are the best team in the state — at least when they’re at full strength.

They proved it on Saturday, beating what had been the consensus no. 1 team in Michigan, Detroit Country Day, 74-64.

Find me a better trio in the state than Devin Oliver, Dyland Hughes and TJ Buchanan, and I’ll find you a reality TV star with talent.

Hughes had 26 points and nine rebounds in the win. Ray McCallum had 21.
