Tuesday night’s most intriguing Mid-Michigan matchup: Grand Blanc vs. Heritage

I know what you’re thinking: Huh?

Hear me out: Grand Blanc is among the best teams in the KLAA this season and Heritage currently sits in third in the always tough Saginaw Valley League. I always love matchups across conferences and I think this one will be seeing.

Heritage has one of the top senior guards in Mid-Michigan, A.J. Thomas and James Johnson, an under-the-radar 6-4 senior forward who’s averaging 13 points per game this season.  They also possess a solid cast of role players that would be studs on a lot of teams in the area: sharpshooting senior Chris Jones and senior guards Lavario Smith and TJ Wright.

Grand Blanc counters with arguably Mid-Michigan’s top outside shooter, senior Patrick Haggin. He’s long, tall and can really stroke it from deep. Haggin is coming off a career performance (31 points) against Milford Friday night. The win gave the Bobcats a share of the KLAA West crown. The ‘Cats also have one of the most underrated backcourts in Mid-Michigan, sophomore Jordan Fields and senior Marcus Tucker.

Prediction: Even though it’s a road game for the Hawks, I’ll take Heritage by six. (And this, after I vowed not to favor Heritage ever again after they lost to Flushing.)

Another competitive matchup should be Hamady boys and Detroit Consortium playing at Hamady tonight. Two class C teams that could meet down the road come playoff time.
I saw DC play at Delta and they seem to have some talent.

DCD bringing up their Freshmen team tonight to play Davison. Now that would be the most intriguing game of the night!

  3. Dave says:

To me i think GB will win this game by a good double digit margin. They are a very underrated team. In my opinion Grand Blanc is a top 15 team in Class A.

Check out Trey Z. bringing his Mt. Pleasant Oilers into SWA tonight. Mt. Pleasant should win. Just hoping Mr. Z will put on a show in Flintown. I idea where he’s leaning for signing day?

  5. Frank says:

Grand Blanc is a good team and very underrated. They get no credit just because of the conference they are in doesn’t mean anything talent wise. They are well coached and has player’s that are skilled. They shared the championship with Brighton who is ranked in the top 21 in class A. We will see what happens district time. GB vs. Carman. I don’t think GB will go 0-3 this year to C/A.
