Swartz Creek to hold banner for FML tonight versus Flushing

Posted: March 2, 2010 by Jared Field in High School

Swartz Creek is not done yet. First-year head coach Jeremy Trent has led the Dragons to one of the best seasons in school history, but tonight’s game has special significance: This one is for the conference.

Tonight, Swartz Creek will host Flushing in a cross-conference battle between between the Big Nine and the Flint Metro League — for years the whipping boy of the Big Nine.

On paper, Swartz Creek should win this game. In reality, however, it won’t be easy. Flushing scored a victory over Saginaw Heritage earlier this season, and Creek hasn’t played any team at that level all season. The Dragons are a better team with better shooters, but the game will probably hinge on their ability to stop Flushing’s big man Zach Treib. If Swartz Creek senior Ethan Brouwer can keep Treib occupied, Swartz Creek will win. Further, Creek’s star guard, senior Cody Campbell, will presumably have to keep Flushing senior Kiontae Brown from getting to the basket. I think he’s up to the task.

Prediction: Swartz Creek by four at home.

Sounds like Flushing just played a decent game against Powers. Looking at the schedule that these 2 teams have played I will take Flushing by 10. Between this game and Powers/Fenton we should have good gauge of the Metro League.

Yeah, I think Flushing has this. Luke Seibt is probably the one guy SC can’t match-up with. He can shoot or finish at the cup. Andrew Kujat is another guy you have to mark around the perimeter — he’s a lights out shooter. And Tyler Harris is really enegetic around the hoop. Flushing has the better talent by a good margin and have faced a much tougher schedule; SC will have its work cut out for them.
