St.Clair County Community College’s Journey to the NJCAA National Tournament

Day 2:  Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Well, after the First Day of Games the NJCAA tournament was all I thought it would be: tons of scouts and plenty of excitement. All the ranked teams, however ended up losing including us. Monroe (No.1) ended up losing a tough one against Cincinnati State Tech. They had the early game which was 9 a.m., so we weren’t able to go to the game but we watched it on TV since all the games were on some Local channel. We lost our game to Lewis & Clark 70-78. We played great defense but gave up a lot of offensive rebounds and we shot horrible. I didn’t have my best performance today. I just couldn’t get anything going offensively and that hurt my team. Jake Stark however had a good all around game. He finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. Marquis Lee had 13 points, James Betha finished with 13 points and Alan Sharp had 11 points and five rebounds.

We fought hard in the game but just couldn’t capitalize on some loose balls and we just missed some assignments. Even though we couldn’t make shots we still had so many opportunities to close the game out. I just want to let the guys know that we can’t hang our heads. We have to make the best of this situation and win our game against Bismarck State at 9 am and win the Consolation bracket.

To finish off the day we all came back to the room showered and went to Buffalo Wild Wings and had a nice team meal. Next for the Skippers will be practice at 9 am tomorrow (wish it could be later Coach Vos!! Lol) so we can get more shots up and get a little more crisp so we will be ready to beat a scrappy Bismarck State team from North Dakota.

Real Good Stuff! Good luck vs Bismark State. As I recall they are a real good shooting team, and hustle! But then again JuCo’s change so much so fast they could be totally different! In any event, get on a roll and start cranking the wins out!!

  2. PJR says:

See Grand Rapids lost their first game too! Some tough years the last couple years for MCCAA teams at the nationals! Upset minded teams in the state/districts aren’t able to repeat the upsets in the nationals! Would be interesting to see a SC4 vs GRCC losers bracket final though!
