Bell on the Up North Challenge

Posted: April 27, 2010 by Jared Field in High School

Here’s Steve Bell’s report from last weekend’s Up North Challenge in Bellaire.

I saw a lot of good players this weekend, but none better than Camp Darryl’s Daequan Mitchell (Kalamazoo Loy-Norrix). Mitchell has good size for a guard, is a top-shelf athlete and has a heater from 3-point range like you wouldn’t believe.

Mitchell had 24 points as a junior against the eventual class A state champions from Kalamazoo Central, so I don’t know why I’m surprised at how good he is.

Camp Darryl’s 17s have another solid prospect in Brandon Wilson, who moved to Three Rivers from Chicagoland.

I must say that with Wilson, TJ Buchanon (K-zoo Central) and Mitchell, K-Zoo has more talent by far in 2011 than my hometown. Our time is coming, though.
