Catching up on a few JUCO signings

Posted: July 12, 2010 by Jared Field in College, High School

Cameron Sanchez (Lansing Eastern) signed with Lansing Community College. Sanchez is arguably the school’s best in-state recruit since Willie Brown, also from Eastern. Sanchez is a witch defensively, an athletic guard with mid-major potential.  Sanchez should play big minutes from day one.

Taron Boose (Saginaw High via Buctown) signed with St. Clair Community College. Boose was a great player at Buctown for three years before transferring to Saginaw High where he didn’t play all that much in his final season. He’s an undersized forward (6-1) who is strong and athletic enough to be a contributor at the JUCO level.

Cam Lefear (Flint Northern via Flint Southwestern) signed with Sinclair Community College. Lefear is a major wild card, having played a precious little (averaged 5 points per game his senior season) in high school. He has some talent, but never seemed to put it together. This is what a series of good workouts can do for a player who hasn’t been a known commodity since middle school. He’s slinky, pretty quick with the ball and a decent shooter. He’s slight, like former Northern guard Carlos Benton, but much less flashy

Devon Weaver (Flint Northwestern and Kellogg CC) signed with Lindenwood University in Belleville, Illinois. Weaver is a bouncy 6-6 forward with a slight frame who played very little in high school for the Wildcats. He’s gone on to develop into a small forward and has earned a scholarship for his work. Great story.

I’ve not watched a Junior College game in awhile, but I’ll have to get over to watch Cameron over at Lansing Community College.

He was a really fun player to watch. For sheer athletic ability and physical coordination, he’s almost as good as anyone. He’s a great ballhandler and passer and when he puts it in gear, his feet are quick enough to stay with anyboday on defense.

    Carlos Benton? lol
