Sam Burton drives to the basket in the first half of Mott's 86-72 win over Grand Rapids.

FLINT, Michigan — The Mott Community College Bears knew they were in for a fight Saturday night at home. In their first meeting with Grand Rapids last month, the Bears got everything they could handle from the Raiders before pulling away late to win by 14.

Saturday night must have seemed like a rerun, as the Bears had to fight back to tie the game at the half before an inspired effort once again produced a 14-point win, 86-72.

Mott sophomore Marshawn Norris scored the bulk of his team-high 20 points in the first half with his team trailing. Sophomore forwards Doug Anderson and Leviante Davis did the bulk of the heavy lifting inside, scoring 19 and 17 points, respectively. Davis also pulled down 10 rebounds. Sophomore Demetrius Miller added 10 points and four assists.

Quinntrai Lampkins led Grand Rapids with 20 points. Theron Brown added 16 points.

The Bears did a great job on sophomore Alex Lyle, arguably the Raiders’ best player. Lyle was held to seven points on five shots and one rebound.

  1. Jared Field says:

Mott’s guard play this season has been pretty suspect. Those guys can’t seem to get the ball into the post, where Mott has a guy shooting 70% from the field and another at around 60%. The easy buckets are inside, fellas.

  2. SBell says:

Yeah, that’s where there huge advantage was when I saw Mott play GR in GR.

  3. Mike Helms says:

I see they are struggling quite a bit are any of the guards getting Division 1 looks? Like Norris or Burton who I saw was dubbed the top PG in his class coming out of highschool…..Is this a case of Schdmit pulling the leash on guys to quick to where they are not comfortable or are they just playing poorly? And who is the transfer guard Laron Rodgers? What is his game like?
