Pick’em: Three big Flint area games on the schedule for tonight

Posted: December 14, 2010 by Jared Field in High School

These should be entertaining games for basketball fans in the Flint area tonight. Here’s how I see them:

Flint SWA @ Buctown: Buctown is among the top teams in class C even without junior guard Antuan Burks. SWA will have to lean heavily upon junior forward Cory Jones in the post — they will have their hands full on the perimeter. Sophomore guard Monte Morris is among the state’s best in the class of 2013.  Pick: Buctown 72, SWA 60

Grand Blanc @ Goodrich: I’m looking for Grand Blanc to bounce back after a horrific performance against Carman-Ainsworth last week. Forward Nathan Sauvola has to score in the post against Goodrich for the Bobcats to get the win, however. Point guard Jordan Fields must create opportunities for sophomore sharpshooter Bart Williams. Goodrich will count on Nathan Landsgaard for scoring, as senior Trevor Lucus will have a big job keeping Sauvola out of the paint. Pick: Grand Blanc 65, Goodrich 63

Clarkston @ Carman-Ainsworth: I was all set to pick Carman-Ainsworth in this game before Thursday night, when the Cavs scored nine points in the first half against Howell. That can’t happen. I think C-A is more talented; heck, I think they’ll be better than Clarkston at some point. Just not tonight. Seniors Max Collins and Marcus Hardy could be too much for the Cavs’ frontline. C-A will need sophomore Denzel Watts and junior Anton Wilson to score in bunches. Pick: Clarkston 59, C-A 55

  1. I agree with the picks, but the Goodrich/GB game worries me. I believe that the Bobcats will have some extra intensity from the drubbing last week so that’s why I give them the edge. Beecher is beatable, but not by SWA. That score may be even worse unless Marques Pool taps into his potential to put the ball in the basket more frequently. C-A will go as far as Wilson takes them, period. I say that knowing that Watts will get his most every night because he can create his own shot and has the ball in his hands. Wilson cannot have games like the one had against howell or they will lose most of them.

    • Jared Field says:

I think there might be one C team in the state that could beat Beecher at full staff, and that’s Detroit Consortium.

      • Skywalker says:

I agree with 2/3 of the picks. Give me Goodrich at home over GB. Nothing fires up a Goodrich team like playing their BIG neighbor to the west…. in any sport!

  2. coachIz says:

GB isn’t beating Goodrich in THEIR match box gym. The Goodrich Big 3; Goetz, Landsgaard and Lucus are better than the GB Big 3; Sauvola, Fields and Williams.

  3. CA-Clarkston has been postponed until Wednesday.
