Christian Vaughn-Dawkins has once again put together a great afternoon of high-level high school basketball in tribute to his brother, Dorian Dawkins.

Dawkins, son of Saginaw High coach Lou Dawkins, collapsed and died at a basketball camp at Michigan State in 2009. Dawkins had an undiagnosed heart condition (acute myocardial ischemia).

To honor his brother, as well as raise money for the American Heart Association, Vaughn-Dawkins organized the first-ever Show Your Heart Memorial Classic last season, featuring some of the best high school teams in the Midwest.

The second annual even has another lineup of fantastic games. The event will be Jan. 17 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) at Delta College. Admission is $10 for the entire day, which features three games. Here is the schedule:

  • Flint Beecher vs. Detroit Consortium, 1 p.m.
  • Thea Bowman Academy (Gary, Indiana) vs. Robichaud High School, 3 p.m.
  • Saginaw High vs. Chicago Orr High School, 5 p.m.

Getting to see those three games for $10 is a huge bargain, and the proceeds are helping a worthy cause.
