Scoring leaders are updated

The latest list of scoring leaders is posted, but I wanted to take a second to address some of the comments that come up every week when I post these. Here goes:

– We only include the following leagues in our area scoring leaders list: Big Nine, Saginaw Valley, Metro and GAC. I also include stats from two local independents, Flint Northwestern and Saginaw BV.

– Why not include other schools? That’s a common question with a simple answer: manpower and access to stats. The coaches in the leagues mentioned above are all pretty diligent about calling their game stats into MLive. I compile these by using MLive boxscores, since I can’t possibly call every coach in every league in the region myself to get their stats. A lot of the other leagues have schools that are either not in the MLive coverage zone or who have coaches who do not consistently get their results called in. So if I can only find incomplete stats out there, I can’t include the school in our list.

– Another common point raised: “so and so’s numbers are innaccurate.”

This happens occasionally, so feel free to point it out. Sometimes, it’s my mistake and I just did the math incorrectly. Other times, the stats I get from the MLive boxscores are accurate. If this is the case, I’m going to go with what’s been published.

If the stats in the boxscores are incorrect, thus giving me an incorrect number in my leaders list, the best thing to do is have a coach or stat keeper from the team e-mail me (patrickhayes13(at)gmail(dot)com) the correct team stats and I’ll make the necessary corrections. I want to be as accurate as possible, but I also can’t simply change something because an anonymous commenter says it is wrong.
