Should Michigan State once again look to Flint to help solidify its point guard position?

Monte Morris is one of the top PG prospects in Michigan.

The Michigan State basketball team has obvious problems at the point guard position, with the flaws of both Kalin Lucas and Korie Lucious on display most nights.

The last time Michigan State had a great leader and efficient playmaker at the point guard spot, it was Flint Northern grad Mateen Cleaves.

The class of 2013 in Flint includes two highly recruited PG prospects in Monte Morris of Beecher and Denzel Watts of Carman-Ainsworth.

So it’s only natural to think Tom Izzo might look Flint’s way again, right?

I broke down the possibility at Michigan State blog The Only Colors, including looking at the strenghts of both Morris and Watts. Here’s an excerpt:

There are certainly other point guard prospects both in-state and out-of-state that Michigan State will consider, but if Izzo is looking for a tough-as-nails leader to plug into that position, both Watts and Morris are smart kids who have been raised in the Flint basketball tradition and already display some of the toughness, talent and intangible qualities that many of the best players Flint has produced over the years showed during their high school and college careers.

Check out the whole post and share your thoughts. Michigan State certainly needs to add depth at that position over the next two years.

    To answer your question, yes.

izzo definitely needs to bring in more players the mold of Green as opposed to summers, lucious, lucas etc …………..all have talent but none of them bring the intangibles needed to be great. I really think Morgan’s versatility the last 2 years covered up a lot of the deficiencies of these 3. Now that Morgan is gone your really seeing their glaring weakness. PG Travis Trice out of Dayton could be a big suprise next year — coaches son who from video i’ve seen is a very heady player much like the Frosh PG for Osu this year. I think you’ll see a much better MSU “Team” next year.

They should have kept Maurice Jones in Michigan

wat bout syro mcdonald he should at least be in the top 3 guards

  5. Tay:

Syro’s a fantastic player, but I was focused on players in the class of 2013. MSU I believe is not looking at any PGs in this year’s class right now. They’re still recruiting heavily from the 2013 class though, which Watts and Morris are both highly sought after parts of.

Not to get off on a off topic tangent but in your opinion do you think that syro would be ready for that level of basketball next year. I have seen him play and have played against him in open gyms and know he has serious potential. tho
