How in the heck did Lapeer East beat Flushing?

Posted: February 1, 2011 by Jared Field in Big Nine, High School, Metro League

In case you missed it, but by some wild turn of events, Lapeer East beat Flushing last night, 69-60.

Seriously.

How can a team with ZERO wins in the Flint Metro League beat Flushing, a team coming off an upset win over Flint Northwestern? That’s a game Flushing just simply cannot lose on its home floor; and that’s fine for me to say that, but overconfidence can kill a team.

This is a perfect example of why players cannot overlook ANY team on the schedule.

It has been an emotional last 5 days for Flushing High School. They have lost a good friend of theirs. Thomas Smith died shortly after Flushing High School’s game last Friday. He suffered from a heart attack. It struck them terribly because he was such a good guy. He left his mark around his peers in Flushing. They wanted to dedicate this game to him and it was too hard to focus. I guarantee that they will come back with a vengeance in their next game and ready to win.

You guys beat me to it… Well said Ben. Tough week at Flushing. The team deserves a pass.
