Saginaw High head coach Lou Dawkins to hold press conference Monday

Posted: March 18, 2011 by Jared Field in High School

The word on the street is that Saginaw High head basketball coach Lou Dawkins will announce his resignation on Monday at a press conference. I know there’s a lot of speculation out there, but I don’t think it’s unfair. Typically a high school coach, even one as great as Dawkins, wouldn’t hold a presser to announce that he’s staying — he’d just stay.

Either way, Dawkins is a tremendous coach and has done an amazing job at Saginaw High. If college basketball is his next step, I wish him the best. I think Dawkins, if he didn’t have it already, earned the respect of everyone in Michigan’s basketball community after the tragic death of his son Dorian. Dawkins persevered during what had to be the toughest trial of his life.

Hope he is going to EMU. They need all kinds of help.

If there is a press release I sure hope it is more than just “I’M resigning / retiring” because irregardless of how good of a high school coach he is, a high school coach hanging it up is not press conference worthy. If he is resigning and announcing that he is going to coach somewhere at college level next year as a HEAD COACH – that IMO is Press conference worthy.

Coach Dawkins taught this old man a lot about life. I’m much to old to have played for him. He taught me how to deal with life and how to over come the low points. Never seen a point as low as his but trust me, I’ve seen my share. Thank you coach God bless you in what ever you are called to do and thank you for what you have done for this old man.
