Saginaw High head coach Lou Dawkins to resign

Posted: March 20, 2011 by Jared Field in High School

Lou Dawkins, one of the state’s best and most successful coaches, is resigning from his post at what he has called the most powerful high school in the state of Michigan.

ABC 12’s Ryan Slocumb reported Sunday night that Dawkins is calling it quits to pursue a college coaching career. Dawkins, who is also the school’s AD, said that he does not have a college gig lined up just yet.

Dawkins overcame tremendous personal strife when his son Dorian, one of the state’s top young guard prospects, passed away during a basketball tournament at MSU in 2009.

In seven seasons at the High, Dawkins won two state titles.
