Check out the Flint-area’s top 10 teams

Posted: January 14, 2012 by Jared Field in High School

1.) Buctown (9-0): I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t be on top of this poll all season.

2.) Fenton (8-1): Cory Cox is even better than advertised. The Tigers are going to be a tough out in the playoffs with their depth.

3.) Flint Hamady (8-0): Erick Layton and company aren’t really being tested in the GAC Blue, but they haven’t had any let-downs.

4.) Holly (6-1): The Bronchos haven’t yet made it to the meat of the schedule, so they still have something to prove.

5.) Flint Northwestern (6-3): The best team in the city of Flint almost by default.

6.) Grand Blanc (4-3): Junior sharpshooter Bart Williams is starting to warm up.

7.) Flint Kearsley (6-3): Two signature wins for Paul Adas’ squad: Fenton and Swartz Creek.

8.) Goodrich (4-3): Goodrich has not played to its potential thus far. I still think they belong in the top 10, though.

9.) Flint Northern (3-5): Played two really good teams close (Beecher and Saginaw Arthur Hill) but the record is less-than-impressive.

10.) Swartz Creek (5-3): Gave away what could have been their biggest win of the year on Friday night versus no. 2 Fenton.

It’s still odd to me to look at a Flint-area top 10 and not see Carman-Ainsworth, Flint Powers and Flint Southwestern. My how things have changed.

flint area is so weak now jared

  2. Julian says:

Beecher is clearly the best team here. They are home grown ,but i would really enjoy seeing Beecher playing against teams like Saginaw high, midland,Detroit Pershing, and Detroit King .I know they are in two different classes but I am a firm believe that if you want to be the best than you have to beat the best.Atleast if we win aginst tho teams that will show we can play aginst anybody ,if we loose than it will be a measuring stick .

  3. Christian says:

Fenton is the best team in the area. I mean they have 4 starters that are 6’3 and above. Beecher is very quick and athletic but Fenton is very long and athletic and can shoot. Beecher would not be able to handle the lenght of Fenton, they would have a very tough time rebounding the ball.

  4. Spoken like people who are not familiar with Beecher’s history. Beecher consistently beats teams that have huge size advantages in the postseason. Fenton, on the other hand, has not seen guards with the speed of Beecher’s. Beecher is easily the area’s best team and program right now.

  5. gregjohnson says:

Beecher would run Fenton off the court and win by a minimum of 20. No question! It’s not even really a discussion. Goodrich and Fenton would be a decent pick ’em matchup and Beecher dominated Goodrich in every way imaginable.

  6. Christian says:

Beecher beat southwestern by 2, Fenton beat em by almost 20
