Five for fighting: Who would win in this fictitious matchup between High and Hill?

Posted: January 4, 2010 by Jared Field in High School

Coming off Saturday’s hard-fought win for Saginaw Arthur Hill over rival Saginaw High, let’s consider the rivalry in recent years.

Let’s just say we took what we consider to be the five best position players from Saginaw Arthur Hill and Saginaw High over the past five seasons and put them up against one another.

What would be the outcome?

This rivalry is among the state’s best, and I’m sure this battle would go right down to the final horn.

Here are the lineups:

Saginaw High

G – Daniel West
G – Bobby Lewis
G – Larry Wright
F – Draymond Green
C – Josh Southern

Saginaw Arthur Hill

G- Maurice Jones
G – Tommie Prater
G – Latreze Mushatt
F – Dar Tucker
C – Antione Lundy

Prediction: The Tucker and Jones combo alone would be worth the price of admission, but that Saginaw High lineup is just too big and talented. They’d have the two best big men (Southern and Green) as well as the best defensive player (Lewis). Give me the High.

Maybe a better gauge would be this:

State Titles: Saginaw 2, Arthur Hill 1

Ive watched close to 10 High v. Hill games over the past 4-5 years and have seen all of the above players in action.

That being said, I gotta take the High. Those High teams played some great defense….to the point where they made M. Jones look like a very average ballhandler at times, which we all knows he’s not. Also, I think Dawkin’s is a much better game coach than McMath.

Same here. The High would win with matchup. Although, the two most talented players would be Jones and Tucker, IMO.

    • Jo Gotti says:

I would have to go with Arthur Hill but i Would replace Tommie Prater with the Wooten Kid. He used to give the High some serious problems especially at the guard position. His senior year he got a victory aginst them in their homecourt and he went off. I believe Wooten was a better player then Tommie so if the lineup would change then i would def go with the Hill….

  2. Dantana says:

What do you think of Dar going pro? I think it was a very bad move on his part, basketball wise. He could have used 2 more years of college ball, though Im sure his team being terrible factored into his decision.

What ever happened to D. West?

    • Jared Field says:

There was no possible way Tucker was ready for the League.

God only knows how he decided on Depaul (I have a pretty good idea though) in the first place. He wasn’t even close to a complete player when he left Depaul early.

I hope Manny Harris doesn’t make the same mistake after this season. He’s not ready either.

  3. Jared Field says:

You just don’t see a lot of players in the NBA with high school bodies.

  4. Gavin Raath says:

Daniel West is at a JC in Florida. Shawntez Patterson, formerly of Duquesne, is at the same one.
