After Oakland’s 30-point loss to no. 1-ranked Kansas last week, I was a little surprised that the Associated Press decided to throw in a not-so-flattering moment in the second half of a lopsided game.
Oakland stayed close early but had trouble getting good shots because the Kansas defense kept pushing them farther and farther away from the basket. One possession after losing the ball on a shot clock violation, Oakland fed the ball to Drew Maynard, who had thrown up an air ball a few minutes earlier. As the crowd chanted, “Air ball, Air ball,” the 6-foot-6 sophomore drew back and threw another one into the seats.
