‘Incredible athletic specimen’: Dion Sims to join MSU basketball team

From Mlive:

EAST LANSING — Michigan State basketball players will have a new teammate when Dion Sims jumps from shoulder pads into a tank top and shorts.

The football tight end, who finished fourth in Mr. Basketball voting as a senior at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s High School, will join the Spartans basketball team Sunday after the team returns from a game at Iowa.

My Take: This is a coup for Michigan State at this point in the season. Sims is a bonafide player, among the top in the state as a senior, and can be an impact player once Izzo gets the rust off.

Like I wrote in an earlier post, he’s not Matt Trannon — he’s better.

You do remember that Trannon was considered a Top 100 basketball prospect in high school?

    • Jared Field says:

Yes, of course, early on when he was a 6-7 bouncy freshman and sophomore. His stock in basketball fell as he got older. Lucky for him, his football stock was rising.
